Kristin's Cloth Pads Information and FAQ
Panty-liner ~  This is the mini-pad 'holder' with no insert.  It makes the perfect size panty-liner.
Mini-Pad ~ This pad can be used for lighter days.  It is as comfortable and absorbent as our other pads.  This pad is recommended for teens and small women and my also be used as a panty liner for those who want more protection.
Regular ~ This pad can be used on regular (not light, not heavy flow days).
Maxi-Pad ~ Also known as the long pad.  If you add a second insert it will stand up to a heavier flow day and is also used for post-partum.
Overnight/Post-partum ~ This is the Maxi/Long holder with two inserts.  It provides 14 layers of protection.  When the post-partum time is over you can use these for heavy flow days or use with one insert for medium and lighter flow days.
Leak-resistant Insert ~ I have included this with the pattern as an "extra".  Many women ask for this, but most find that it is unnecessary with these cloth pads.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many cloth pads do I need?  The answer to this question is different for every woman.  The two most important things to think about when answering this question are:
1.  How often do you plan to wash your pads?
2.  How heavy is your period/how many pads will you use during your period?

The general recommendation is 12 pads.  If you wash your pads every day you will not need as many.  If you have a particularly heavy flow, you may want to have more than 12.  Make or purchase as many as you think you will need. Use them for a cycle and make or purchase more if you need them.
How do I use my cloth pads?   Put the insert inside the holder.  Lay the side of the pad with the opening against the crotch of your panties - so that the smooth side with no seams is up.  Snap the wings around your panties and your pad is 'on'.  For extra protection you may want to use two inserts in the Maxi/Long holder on heavy days, at night, or if you are post-partum.  Just fold another insert up and put it in the holder right on top of the first one.  I recommend that you change your pad as often as you would with a disposable.  When you first begin to use cloth pads, though, check your pad often so you will get to know how often you need to change it as this varies from woman to woman.
How do I care for my cotton pads?   Always wash your pads prior to first use.

Soak your pads in cold water after each use.  A plastic container will work for this purpose.  Change soak water daily by pouring the water off into the toilet (be sure to hold the pads back) and refill with fresh water.  When ready to wash, simply launder as you would a flannel shirt (with like colors) or wash separately, if you prefer.  An alternative to soaking:  Toss your pads into a plastic bucket with cover.  At the end of the week put them in the washer on rinse.  Then launder as instructed above.  I call this the 'dry' method and recommend it to those who have small children because of the danger of having a container of water around.

DO NOT USE BLEACH OF ANY KIND ON YOUR PADS.  It will reduce the life of your pads.  Also, do not use any fabric softener on your pads as this may reduce absorbency.  If you dry your pads, do not use dryer sheets.  If you prefer to hand your pads they will usually dry overnight.

Will my pads really get clean?  Yes.  These pads were designed with this issue in mind.  When disassembled the holder and insert both have only 2 layers of flannel.  You may wash your pads twice, using two full wash cycles, but it really isn't necessary.
How long will my pads last?  Your pads should last as long as a flannel shirt that you wear, wash, and dry a couple of times each month.  My first pads (that are not constructed nearl as well as this design) lasted for 9+ years.
